in the Weddin Shire

Derived from the Wiradjuri word of Weedin.  A place to sit, stay or remain.

Weddin Mountains Elopement

Elope in one of the most pristinely beautiful locations in all of NSW.  A location full of history, scenic views, and colourful walks!

The mountains have a strong tie with the Wiradjuri Aboriginal tribe, who had spiritual and ceremonial associations with the area.

It also the location of one of revered bushranger, Ben Hall's, hideouts, who resided in Grenfell.  Local legend has it, that the proceeds from the 1862  Eugowra Gold Robbery, where Ben Hall, Frank Gardiner and 6 others stole £3,700 in cash and 2,719 ounces of gold, equivalent to over $1 million dollars today, they stashed the booty in the Weddin Mountains.  To this day, the proceeds have never been found.

Hike up to either Ben Hall's Cave or Lynch's Loop and elope overlooking the farmland of the Weddin Shire.
